Scleral Lenses

Scleral lenses are a type of gas permeable contacts lenses that are larger in diameter. They are specially designed to vault over the entire corneal surface and rest on the “white” of the eye called the sclera, hence the name. The space between the lens and the cornea is filled by tears, which provides comfort as well as a smooth optical surface that corrects vision problems. Due to their size, the Scleral lenses are more stable on the eye than conventional gas permeable lenses, making it less likely to accidentally dislodge from the eye.
